Cromer Crab and Lobster Festival

Next May’s eighth Crab & Lobster Festival is set to get off to a cracking start with a star-studded opening concert.

As Cromer and Sheringham come together once again to host the Festival, Olly Day, Nigel Boy Syer and the Sheringham Shantymen will get the Festival weekend underway as they headline the Festival’s opening concert.

Tickets are now on sale for the event which will be held at the Pier Pavilion theatre in Cromer on Friday, May 19 2017.

Festival Chairman, Tony Shipp, said: “The 2017 Crab & Lobster Festival will once again open with our now ’must attend’ concert in the Pavilion Theatre.

“It has become an essential part of the Crab & Lobster Festival weekend, eagerly looked forward to by both local residents and visitors.

“The ticket price, as last year, is only £10 and these are now available online and from the booking office. So, don’t leave it too late to join us for another us for a wonderful start to our Crab & Lobster Festival weekend next May.”

The ever-popular Olly Day returns to host the concert which features the seaside tradition of Sea Shanties from the renowned Sheringham Shantymen, irresistible humour from favourite Nigel Boy Syer plus a supporting cast.

Olly Day said: “Both Nigel and I love performing our double act in the opening concert.
“There is such a great atmosphere in the theatre and it’s a great start to a very ‘crabby’ weekend.

“It’s always a wonderful show and fabulous working with the Shantymen too. It really is one of the highlights of the North Norfolk year.”

Over the last 20 years the Sheringham Shantymen have developed their own style of performing songs of the sea.

As well as hundreds of local performances the group has entertained at prestigious Maritime Festivals at Bristol, Southampton and Portsmouth.

Olly Day, who is currently performing on stage with the Cromer Christmas Show, is firmly established as one of East Anglia’s finest performers. His unique style combines an irresistible sense of humour and an impressive singing voice.

Nigel Boy Syer is a natural comedian, using daft poetry, hilarious stories and his uncanny ability for acting the fool on stage to get a laugh. His ‘country boy’ style of presentation adds an extra twist to his performance that has his audience in stitches.

The Festival weekend continues on Saturday, 20 and Sunday, 21 May in Cromer and Sheringham with a programme of superb seafood, entertainment, music, seafood competitions.

Festival chairman Tony Shipp said: “This year the Festival achieved enormous successes. Thousands of people enjoyed the Festival weekend, and thousands more followed the art trail and attended the Crabbing Championships – it is hoped this year’s Festival, with an expanded programme of events will achieve the same success and bring more and more people to this fabulous area.”
