Gainsborough Community Fund
Members of the Gainsborough People’s Forum launch the Gainsborough Community Fund at Gainsborough Library on 16 January 2016.

Local voluntary organisations and projects in Gainsborough are now able to apply for grants of up to £5,000 from the £53,000 Gainsborough Community Fund to make their community an even better place to live.

This local grant scheme  is part of a £298,600 funding award for Gainsborough from the People’s Health Trust – with money raised by HealthIntend through The Health Lottery. The three year investment, in partnership with Community Action Suffolk, has been awarded through the Local Conversations Programme – a People’s Health Trust initiative which involves supporting residents to develop a shared vision for their community and take local action on issues that matter to them.

Community Action Suffolk has supported local resident volunteers to form the Gainsborough Community People’s Forum.

For the last 18 months, the People’s Forum has worked with local residents, voluntary organisations and statutory bodies involved in the community to develop ideas and  priorities for investment focused on bringing about positive change for the area. A Visioning Event held in August 2014 also helped to shape the content of the local plan and the priorities identified through consultations with residents are:

  • Community Activities
  • Play Equipment
  • Recreational Spaces

Angela Oakey-Jones, Chair of Gainsborough People’s Forum said:“This is our opportunity to be collectively involved in identifying, designing and running activities and projects that will make Gainsborough an even better place for everyone. We are really excited that we can now begin to put our plans into operation. Local residents have identified the needs, we now have the means. We hope that as many people as possible from Gainsborough Ward will benefit from this funding.”

The first Community Grant funding round opened on 16 January 2016 and closes at noon on 27 February 2016.

Grants of up to £5,000 can be awarded to voluntary or community groups and organisations working with local people to positively shape the community and improve the lives of residents in the ward of Gainsborough. The fund will support genuinely good ideas that will make a real difference to the lives of local people.

A launch event was held at Gainsborough Library on Saturday 16 January 2016 to open the grants and promote the Gainsborough Local Conversation project.
