Robert Altman’s final movie brings to life Garrison Keillor’s radio show of the same name, as it records the show’s last performance before being axed.
Altman’s whimsical direction and Keillor’s downbeat and witty writing combine to make this a story about human beings; the plot is almost incidental. The cast is a stunning ensemble all inhabiting their radio ‘turns’ in performances that are convincing but delightful. Like his other films, this is an idiosyncratic, warm and funny tribute to theatre, music and creativity.
