Adnams launches Pennies scheme for online shop

Customers are able to donate when purchasing Adnams products online Beneficiary charity, Big C, launches #CancerConversations campaign

Adnams, the Suffolk-based brewer and distiller, has introduced Pennies, the electronic charity box, to its online store. Customers now have the option to round up their purchase to the nearest pound and donate the extra change to charity.  A recent update to their online checkout system, making it clearer and easier for customers to use, provided the ideal opportunity to extend the Pennies scheme online. By including Pennies on its online store Adnams hopes to be able to raise even more for its chosen charities. Even just a penny or two on each online order helps towards the thousands of pounds raised for each charity being supported.

Adnams has been working with Pennies in its shops since 2012 and has raised over £120,000 for a selection of charities. In the past three months, Adnams’ customers have raised over £10,000 for the charity Pancreatic Cancer UK. Its next chosen charity to benefit from the scheme is Big C, a Norfolk-based charity, which supports sufferers of cancer through its information centre, provision of medical equipment and support of research.

The charity has also united with Adnams to launch its summer ‘Cancer Conversations’ campaign, which looks to raise awareness of the disease specifically among young people and the pub-going community. The campaign involves 280 pubs across the Norfolk and Waveney area, all of which serve Adnams beers, and is distributing pub quiz themed beer mats to customers, each with hard-hitting questions and facts about cancer to encourage conversation.

Sarah Fisk, Adnams Corporate Communications, comments: “We’re delighted to be extending our Pennies collection scheme to our online stores. Traditionally Adnams’ customers have been very generous and based on their past support of the initiative, we are hoping to build on this success.

“Big C is a charity close to our hearts as it is based in East Anglia and supports local sufferers. We are already working with the charity to support the Cancer Conversations campaign in pubs across the region as well as on our online communities with #CancerConversations. The campaign has been designed to encourage people to be more aware of the disease’s symptoms and encourage early screening to increase survival rates.”

Big C Director of Income Generation and Communications, Clive Evans said: “Big C is delighted to be the recipient of the first Adnams Pennies campaign to run both in store and also online.

“It is incredible how the pennies really do add up. They will enable us to continue working to be leaders in innovative cancer care directly making a difference to people affected in Norfolk and Suffolk. Our services are required more than ever with increasing numbers of cancer patients and their families seeking support and information.”

Big C will be the Pennies beneficiaries in Adnams stores and online until then end of October 2016.

About Big C

In 1980, two young men from Norfolk found themselves with cancer and having to travel to London or Cambridge for treatment, often finding this journey harder than the treatment itself. They vowed that the people of Norfolk & Waveney would have access to the best treatment and support in their local areas.

Thirty-five years on and this ambition is being realised more than ever; with over £25million raised since The Big C Appeal began in 1980. Big C’s investment in surgical and diagnostic equipment at Norfolk’s hospitals means more people can be treated locally, with faster or less invasive treatments and our support for world class research taking place across the Norwich Research Park has funded some incredible developments in cancer research.

Today Big C has four drop in support and information centres across Norfolk and Waveney, used by thousands of people every year affected by cancer. Our centres provide valuable information about diagnosis, treatments, side effects and recovery and there are trained staff to provide emotional help, support and complimentary therapies.

Big C is as ambitious as it was 35 years ago and continue to do its best to support and improve the lives of those people affected by cancer in Norfolk and  Waveney.
