We are pleased to announce that Denis King, one of the original King Brothers, will be hosting ‘An Afternoon with Denis King’ at Beccles Public Hall on Sunday 29th October at 2:30pm to raise funds for Waveney Light Opera Group (WLOG).

Known as “Britain’s First Boy Band”, the King Brothers were a popular pop vocal trio in the late 1950s and early 1960s. They are best remembered for their top ten hits such as “Standing on the Corner” and “A White Sport Coat (And A Pink Carnation)”. After the King Brothers disbanded in 1970, Denis King has gone on to have a hugely successful career as an award-winning composer for television, film, and musicals; among other things, he wrote the theme music for ‘The Adventures of Black Beauty’ and ‘Lovejoy’.

To date, he has created themes and incidental music for over two hundred television series as well as writing over one hundred jingles for radio and television advertising. He has also worked on films and as a musician, performing with Dame Edna Everage, Albert Finney, Benny Green, and Maureen Lipman in her successful stage show ‘Re: Joyce’. Denis made his debut as a theatrical composer with the original 1977 Royal Shakespeare Theatre’s production of ‘Privates On Parade’, which won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Musical. Since then he has been involved in many other theatre productions.

Denis will be sitting at the piano, playing some of his music, singing some of his songs, and entertaining us with anecdotes of the highs and lows of show business, from post war Twice Nightly Variety to the present day of his long musical career. There will also be an opportunity for a Q&A at the end of the afternoon. A one-off event not to be missed! Open to all.

Tickets price £6.00 adults, £5.00 concessions (under 12s free) are available now from the Beccles Public Hall box office, open 10am-3pm Monday to Saturday or telephone 01502 770060 between the same times. Website: www.becclespublichall.co.uk
