Beccles Public Hall

As part of the next phase of development at Beccles Public Hall, we are fast approaching the time for dismantling the balcony.

Work starts at 9am on 6 July!

There is more urgency than previously thought as the asbestos survey has had to be brought forward to 10 July because of changes to legislation – giving us 4 days to strip all of the balcony including floorboards.

To try to keep the mess in the Hall to a minimum, we are putting polythene sheeting across the front of the balcony – we have agreed with Spotlight who are clearing the set for Tommy that we can start this in the morning of Sunday 5 July. We are proposing to get going at 9.30 till 1pm when there is a group in the Hall and start again at 6pm for a couple of hours.

On the Monday, we start at 9am and work through till 6pm but could go on later if people want to go into the evening. Because of Hall bookings, Tuesday we can start at 12.30, and Wednesday and Thursday at 9am working till 6pm or later if we have not finished.

There will be more opportunities the following three weeks – times to be announced and published on the door of the Hall.

Any help you can give at any time will be really appreciated. Thanks to M&H Plastics, we have safety gear – hard hats, gloves and face-masks etc. – it would be a good idea to wear stout shoes in case of falling bits. Any tools of destruction welcome; crowbars, power screwdrivers, hammer, wood chisels etc. The crunch day is Sunday 9 August when all has to be ready for the builders to start on the 10th – anyone who turns up from 9am onwards will be found something to do.

Just to remind what is at stake – we will save over £40,000 doing this ourselves!

If you wish to discuss the work, please ring me, Terry on 07786 074 216 or drop in at the Hall” Terry Dentith, Director, Beccles Public Hall
