The Beccles Public Hall team has been successful in their bid to become a Dementia Friendly organisation to fund a support group called Forget-me-not @ the Hall twice a month commencing Tuesday 3rd and Monday 16th January 2017.

Forget-me-not clubs have been very successfully run by Suffolk Age UK for people with memory problems and for family carers. The very popular group supported by Vicky Hutchinson, Dementia Development Community Officer with Suffolk Age UK,  has been offering an interesting & lively programme of events every first Tuesday in the month at Hungate Hall, Beccles.

“When the Hall team applied for a grant from Suffolk Community Foundation from the Dementia Friendly Communities Fund, we spoke to Vicky and established that funding at Hungate Hall was running out at the end of 2016 and Vicky was concerned for the future of the group. We immediately formed a bond and starting to work together to ensure a seamless transfer for the group to the Public Hall in the New Year” said Sue Bergin, Hall Event Coordinator.

Make a date and come to Beccles Public Hall on the first Tuesday and third Monday of each month from 2pm to 4pm for R&R (Relax and Reminisce) and memories through music and much more!

“There’s a really lovely varied programme of entertainers lined up for the New Year with Sally Reynolds singing popular 60s numbers on Tuesday 3 Jan and popular duo, May and John from Friends in Harmony, who will be playing and singing on Monday 16th Jan. We are particularly looking forward to March as we have dedicated it to Vera Lynn as she’ll be 100 on Monday 20th on the same day as our Monday session for that month!”, added Jenny Shepherd, Hall Volunteer.

“We look forward to welcoming new and existing people and we are so pleased to offer the Public Hall as a central venue for people with memory loss and their carers.  There are great facilities at the Hall for live music and for other activities. All events are free and refreshments will cost just £1 for a hot drink and piece of cake” added Sue.

“Many thanks to Suffolk Community Foundation and Suffolk Age UK for their superb support to initiate this project and for the work they already do for people with memory loss and their carers” added Jenny
