Blankets galore!
When a call went out from the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital premature baby unit for knitted blankets just 20 inches square, craft producers and customers at Aylsham’s weekly Country Market were quickly on the case. The end result was no less than 26 of the blankets delivered to the hospital, via John Lewis’ store in the City.
Leading ‘crafter’ at the Country market, Jean Hinchliffe, commented, “I’m a dedicated knitter as are some of my colleagues in the Market’s craft section. Add in some very generous customers who share our interest, and very soon we were up to a quite a number of blankets. It’s great to know that they are going to help premature babies and I’d like to thank everyone involved.”
As well as hundreds of craft items, Aylsham Country Market – a cooperative of local home-based producers – sells cakes, desserts, savouries, cookies, preserves, plants, flowers, eggs and goats meat. It is open every Friday morning in the Town Hall from 8.30 to noon.
