Budding young Lowestoft DJs invited to Rock Up at Sam’s Café

Suffolk Artlink launches first ever under 18s DJ open mic event

Suffolk Artlink is inviting young Lowestoft DJs to take part in a DJ open mic event taking place at Sam’s Café this Saturday 1st April, 2 – 5 pm.

International DJ, producer and singer, Tallulah Goodtimes will be in attendance with full DJ kit to get everyone in the mood and help anyone wishing to have a go.

Complete beginners are welcome, as are more seasoned young DJs. Participants can either bring mixes they’ve already made, or create a new one at the event.

The free event forms part of the arts charity’s Rock Up project, which offers young people in Lowestoft a range of ways to develop their musical interests and talents through weekly music sessions (see note 1).

Candida Wingate, Suffolk Artlink project officer, said: “Making music is a great way for young people to explore their creativity and develop new skills and confidence. We are really excited to offer this opportunity to young people in Lowestoft through our new open mic night at Sam’s Café .”

“If any of our young DJs get bitten by the music bug during the event, our weekly Rock Up music sessions continue at Colville House Senior Youth Club until July this year, and we would welcome new members to join us.”

Rob Fawcett, Youth Services Coordinator from Access Community Trust, who run Sam’s Café, added: “It’s excellent to be able to provide something different within our community and bring young people together with the power of music.”

The event will offer 15 minute DJ slots to participants, bookable on the afternoon, so that everyone gets a chance to have a go.

Sam’s Café will be serving drinks and snacks throughout the event for performers, their friends and family.

The event is open to all budding DJs in the area aged between 11 – 18.

Sam’s Café can be found at 132 Bevan Street East, Lowestoft.  For more information about the event, call the Café on 01502 527200.
