FITTING FINALE

The 2008/9 season comes to a close this Saturday and Sunday and with the future of the club in mind there could be no more appropriate way than with some of our most promising young members playing in the YAZOO National Youth Hockey Festival being held at Highfields Hockey Centre (Beeston HC) in Nottingham.

On Saturday our team, coached by David Brook and managed by Helen Brook, will be playing in the YAZOO U9 National Wild Festival as the Tigers. All 40 club teams (playing in eight groups of five) are named after wild animals – a magpie obviously doesn’t count for this purpose! In this fun event (with no overall winner) we play Wakefield (11.30), St Neots (12.15), Cheltenham (1.30) and Stockport (2.15).

On Sunday our U13 Girls, coached by Nick McAllen and managed by Nigel Wooltorton, will be hoping to continue their highly successful season when they play in the YAZOO National Mini Championship Finals as East Champions. A further victory would be a deserved reward for the squad which has played some sparkling hockey all season in winning their eight events to-date but most of all I hope they, like the U9s, enjoy the excitement of playing in such a big event. There is more to sport than winning especially when one is so young. Starting at 11.00 we play Lichfield HC before taking on Dean Close Prep School (12.00), Wakefield GHS (14.00) and, finally, Kingston Grammar School (15.30).

Good luck to all our players, team managements, parents and other supporters this weekend.
