The paediatric patients at the Jenny Lind children’s department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital have expressed heartfelt thanks to one of its patients and her family.

Mia Tuttle, aged eight, suffers from brittle bone disease and visits the specialists at the hospital for treatment regularly. To make a visit more entertaining for the younger patients at the hospital Mia and her family have donated a range of items for the ward.

Mia’s father, Mr Lee Tuttle, of Old Catton, said: “I asked if they had a DVD player and they didn’t, so I decided that we should do something to help out. There are kids there who have to spend hours having treatment, so we thought it would be a nice thing to do.”

Mr Tuttle, organised a fun day at the Walnut Tree Shades restaurant and bar, where he works as a barman, to raise money for the Jenny Lind Children’s Department. The event included live music, a raffle, face painting and 50p donated from every pint sold.

The restaurant and bar were able to raise enough money to purchase a 32” TV for the children’s play area, eight portable DVD players, three static DVD players to connect to the TV’s, £140 worth of DVDs, colouring materials, and puppets amongst a host of other things. Steven Nicholls, NNUH Buxton Ward Play specialist, commented: “These items will be invaluable to the paediatric patients on the ward and help to keep them entertained when they are in our care. We cannot thank the Tuttle family enough for all their support and their generous donation.
