The Colours of Spring 2013

Colourful massed spring flowering bulbs take centre stage in the gardens opening for the Norfolk National Gardens Scheme in March. These, together with the bright greens of new shoots on trees and shrubs all help to shrug off the bleak days of winter.

 

March 3rd

Here will be a chance to see the last snowdrops species in flower with wonderful drifts of spring bulbs and many choice, early flowering woodland plants in this 3 acre plant lovers garden. Owners John and Judy McNeil Wilson are enthusiastic plant hunters and will be delighted to share their knowledge with you.

 

March 17th

Mannington Hall, Saxthorpe, NR11 7BB, Open 12-5 Adm £6, chd free, concessions £5.

Features extensive walks amongst woodland areas with a moated manor house, and a saxon church with 19th century follies.

 

March 24th

GAYTON HALL, Gayton, PE32 1PL Open (12-5) Adm £4, chd free

20 acres of waterside gardens with lakes,streams and bridges provide the ideal setting for a bracing walk. There are many spring bulbs and unusual trees to admire on the way.

 

March 24th

Hindringham Hall, Hindringham, NR21 0QA Open 10.30-4. Adm £5, chd free

Massed displays of daffodils with over 30 varieties greet you. The setting is a fabulous Tudor Manor House surrounded by a 13th century moat . Stream gardens also feature early spring flowers.

 

March 29th, 30th, 31st and April 1st

Desert World Gardens, Santon Downham , IP27 0TU Open 10-5 Adm £3.50, chd free.

Open all Easter weekend and has over an acre packed with a terrific range of plants. Magnolias are at their best, along with spring bulbs.

 

March 31st

On Easter Sunday, The Conifers, Wreningham NR16 1AT Open1-4 Adm £3.50, chd free.

Has impressive drifts of daffodils in a 1½ acre garden, featuring three ponds and a bog garden plus some new features for 2013

 

March 31st and April 1st

Also on Easter Sunday and Monday, Wretham Lodge, East Wretham, IP24 1RL Open12-5Adm £4, chd free

This tranquil garden has masses of specie tulips,hellebores,fritillaries and daffodils in grass land areas and a splendid walled garden to view.

All gardens will have the renowned NGS home made teas available.
