Our Day Out

‘Our Day Out’ comes to Thetford, with Music and Dance activities for older people.

A chance for older people to enjoy some fantastic free music and dance activities in a special taster session, is coming to Thetford on Friday 23rd December 2016, through arts and community development charity Creative Arts East.

‘Our Day Out’ is an inclusive group for older people, and aims to engage participants in a programme of fun and stimulating music and dance activities delivered by professional arts practitioners.

‘Our Day Out’ particularly welcomes older people living with early to mid-stage dementia and their carers, as well as other older people in the community who may feel isolated, or who are living with long term health conditions.   The range of creative activities on offer are a great way of giving everyone a chance to experience and try out new things and make new friends, whilst in a safe and welcoming environment.

The programme has been successfully running over the past 18 months in the neighbouring market towns of Attleborough, Dereham and Watton, and this special taster session for older people in the Thetford area is taking place at The Salvation Army, Magdalen Street, Thetford on Friday 23rd December. The session will run from 10am till 12noon, and warmly invites anyone along who may be interested in some music making activities!  The activities are free and there is no need to book.

The ‘Our Day Out’ programme has received funding from Spirit of 2012, an independent trust established with Big Lottery funding, and Breckland Council providing opportunities for older people to engage with culture and creativity through fortnightly, participatory music and dance sessions. For any further information on the taster session in Thetford or on the other ‘Our Day Out’ groups please contact Elly Wilson at Creative Arts East on 01953 713390 or email [email protected]

Spirit of 2012 was established by the Big Lottery Fund in November 2013 with an endowment of £47m. Spirit invests in happiness. Our vision is that all people are equally empowered to get out, be involved and feel better. We believe in equal chances; we’re working to ensure the spirit that radiated from the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics is felt across the UK. By connecting events to communities across the country, we ensure our investment is of local, regional and national benefit. We tackle isolation and disadvantage by supporting those providing opportunities in sports and physical activity, culture and the arts, social action and volunteering.
