Drowsy Chaperone

The Drowsy Chaperone’ – don’t miss your chance to see this great show!

Tickets are now on sale at Beccles Public Hall for the latest musical offering from the Waveney Light Opera Group. Although rarely performed by amateur societies, ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ was a big hit on Broadway and London’s West End where it starred Elaine Page in the title role.

This quirky and hugely entertaining comedy centres around the lone narrator – ‘The man in the chair’ – who talks to the audience from his armchair at the front of the stage, confiding in them like friends. He tells them the story of his favourite musical: The Drowsy Chaperone and the show comes to life as he plays his record.  Set in the roaring twenties, the story centres around the celebrity wedding of the beautiful starlet Janet Van Der Graff to the dashing Robert Martin, set in the grounds of an English country mansion. However, Janet’s money-grabbing agent is determined to stop the wedding and hires an infamous Italian womaniser, Adolpho, to seduce the bride before the wedding. Of course, the plot goes wrong and chaos ensues.

Don’t miss your chance to see this enormously entertaining, and often moving, production.
