Are your New Year’s resolutions long gone?

So it’ll be May very soon, five months into 2015 and if your New Year’s Resolutions are still around you deserve a round of applause. Maybe you’re still holding out hope for some of them, or you think you still have time. ‘The trouble is you think you have time’ – Buddha. Maybe you are not one for making (and breaking) new year’s resolutions. Whatever the case, I am sure you are hoping that 2015 will be a great year, a happy year, and a year to remember. But how are you going to make it memorable?

As a charity East Coast hospice has the pleasure to meet so many amazing people from all walks of life who want to help build Margaret Chadd House because they have been personally touched by the need for a hospice in the area. They can see that East Coast Hospice are trying very hard to provide a dignified choice for terminally ill people in the form of a specialist palliative care facility with ten beds, day care, and complementary therapies.

The friends and supporters of ECH have already begun creating an incredible 2015, after a jaw dropping 2014!

Gill Hak

Last year saw Malcolm Metcalf ride 10,000 miles around America, Anne Alger walk 500 miles across Spain, Corinne & friends jump out of an aeroplane, Gill run the Edinburgh Marathon, Ann & David hold countless stalls at events, Elaine donate mountains of beautiful clothes and lots of lovely people donate their hard earned money amongst many many other acts of generosity and selflessness all in aid of East Coast Hospice.

If you need some inspiration on how you can make your 2015 the best ever we are here to help…

Corinne-Bryant

Firstly for the brave (or crazy) now is the time to sign up to take part in a sponsored skydive. Don’t worry it is in tandem with a professional sky-diver, and I can assure you that the nerves you get from thinking about jumping out of an aeroplane will turn into the thrill of your life when you are falling through the air for charity. ECH has its very own day allotted to them at Ellough Airport on the 19th of July and welcomes everyone who would like to do something crazy for money. So far we have 6 people interested in doing the skydive, including a spritely 83 year old lady, so if you were thinking your excuse could be your age then think again!

Secondly- for the energetic- you may have noticed that the East Anglian Dragon Boat Festival is returning to Oulton Broad on the 31st of May. If you can get together a team of 11 people to race you could join in on what is going to be a brilliant day. If you are not so energetic then come along for the ‘dry’ activities in Nicholas Everitt Park.

For those with energetic dogs or a passion for walking, the Great Yarmouth Rotary Club are holding their 14th annual Sponsored Spring Walk on the 10th of May. Choose to walk 6 or 10 miles around Acle for a great cause.

Vicky Quantrill

Vicky Quantrill is making 2015 unforgettable by running the London Marathon in memory of her friend and fellow runner Richard Blake.  Vicky says “As a fitting tribute and in an effort for some good to come out of such a tragic situation I have decided to raise some sponsorship for charity. I have chosen a local based charity near where I live in Great Yarmouth to benefit – East Coast Hospice”. You can be forgiven for not running the gruelling 26 miles like Vicky, but it would be lovely if you could sponsor her via her Virgin Money Giving Page.

Search ‘Victoria Quantrill’ on  www.virginmoneygiving.com, or start training for next year!

If you are looking for something a little less energetic and crazy why not take a leaf out of Sandy’s book. Last year this wonderful lady realised that she had always spent at least £100 every month on new clothes and challenged herself not to buy any more clothes for all of 2014, apart from second hand clothes from charity shops. She said she hadn’t realised how much she would enjoy the challenge and felt great about donating the £1200 she had saved to East Coast Hospice at the end of the year. This money will provide specialist palliative care to someone in great need and make a huge difference to the quality of their life.

Martin Luther King is quoted as saying –
“It does not matter how long you live, but how well you do it.”

And Philip James Bailey, Festus (1839), scene A Country Town wrote:
“We live in deeds, not years: in thoughts, not breaths;
In feelings, not in figures on a dial.
We should count time by heart-throbs. He most lives
Who thinks most, feels the noblest, acts the best.”

Make 2015 a year full of new experiences, rich in variety and in no way forgettable, because – ‘In the end we only regret the chances we didn’t take’.
