In October 1963, the teeming Paris traffic came to a complete standstill, the only time this has happened since the end of the Second World War. In a united expression of affection, 40,000 people formed a funeral cortege, which crammed and hushed the streets, but this was not a state or a royal funeral, and the deceased was even denied a full Catholic mass. The unprecedented outpouring of grief and devotion was for one tiny woman, only 4’ft 8 high and just 47 years old, but who held the heart of France in her hand, Edith Piaf.

Edith’s voice and presence on stage still secure her place as France’s most beloved and iconic singer, instantly recognisable the world over. Her music still reaches out and touches the hearts of thousands of admirers and devotees, and has more than stood the test of time.

On Friday 7th November at Dereham Memorial Hall, a special homage to Edith Piaf’s music and life will take to the stage in a special one-night celebratory concert. Featuring Edith’s most treasured songs, and those of her friend and fellow performer Charles Aznavour, the show ‘Je ne Regrette Rien’ pays homage to the life and musical gift of this remarkable woman.

Sung in both French and English, Piaf and Aznavour’s most famous songs will include ‘La Vie en Rose’, ‘Autumn Leaves’, Padam Padam, ‘She’, and of course, Edith’s torch song ‘Je ne Regrette Rien’.

The life of ‘La Mome Piaf’ (The Little Sparrow), reads like the plot of a romantic tragedy. Born in poverty, Edith’s story is that of a meteoric rise to fame, a tumultuous and tragic personal life, and the premature death of a woman whose voice and whose heart captured the world.
