Many of Suffolk’s libraries are offering Easter themed events and other family activities over the Easter Holidays:

  • Bury St Edmunds Library are offering children the chance to decorate an Easter egg and make their own basket on Sunday 6 April 2014
  • Glemsford Library are holding a special hedgehog-themed month during April which will feature local artist David Gilbert helping children to paint a mural of hedgehogs and British wildlife on Sunday 6 April from 11.30am.
  • Chantry Library are holding an Easter Egg Treasure Hunt on Saturday 19th April from 11am to 12.30pm. It’s £1 for children to take part, which includes an Easter Egg and there will also be hot drinks and hot cross buns on offer.
  • There will also be an Easter Egg hunt at Leiston Library with a chance of finding a mystery message on Saturday 19 April at 10.30am. There will also be a colouring competition and Easter crafts with prizes to be won!
  • Mildenhall Library is welcoming children’s author Annie Stewart on Friday 11 April. Annie is author of the ‘Adventures of Wilf’ books about a mischievous dog and will be working with children over two sessions at 10.30am and 11.30am. She will be telling stories and signing copies of her book.
  • Ipswich Library Easter EGGstravaganza and Circus Skills

–        Ipswich County Library are holding some fun Easter craft activities on Wednesday 9 April from 10am to 11.30am. For £1.50 per child you can make a 3D Easter egg decoration there is also a chance to build a circus tent and design characters to perform in it before the library’s big Circus Skills event.

–        Roll up roll up for Mr Bean Entertainments’ Circus Skills Workshops on Wednesday 16 April This is a family event aimed at children ages 5 and over. Tickets are just £3 per child or £3.50 for Suffolk Libraries members (so it’s a good reason to sign up for free!)  One accompanying adult gets a free ticket too. There will be two workshops held in the library’s lecture hall; 2pm to 3pm and 3.30pm to 4.30pm. Mr Bean events in the past have been very popular so get your ticket now by calling 01473 263810 or dropping into the library.

  • Newmarket Library are working with Artistry in Cocoa to provide a chocolate lollipop making session followed by a library Easter egg hunt on Tuesday 8 April from 10.30am.
  • Southwold Library are holding an Easter children’s crafts session on 16 April from 2pm to 4pm.
  • Halesworth Library are hosting a range of events including :

–        Easter craft activities for children on Wednesday 9 April from 2.30pm until 4pm.

–        A free family fun day on Saturday 19 April from 10am to 3pm which will include face painting, Easter treasure hunt, crafts and storytelling. There will also be a book sale, and homemade cakes, biscuits and preserves for sale.

–        Local author Nicola Davies will be reading from her book ‘The Promise’ on Wednesday 16 April from 2pm to 3pm followed by a session to make a huge Easter wish-tree in the library.

  • Felixstowe Library are holding a Book Mountain and Craft Fair on Saturday 26 April, from 10am to 3pm which will raise funds to support Felixstowe Library.
  • Gainsborough Library in Ipswich are holding Easter activities on Thursday 17 April from 10am to 4pm. There’ll be free Easter crafts and activities and a chance to enjoy a hot cross bun and hot drink in the café. The event is being organised by Landseer Road Methodist Church.
  • Beccles Library are holding a Wirework Jewellery workshop on Thursday 17 April where you can design and make your own individual piece of jewellery such as a ring, bracelet or earring. Call the library on 01502 714073 for more details.
  • Lowestoft Library are holding Saturday storyteller and craft sessions on 5 and 19 April from 2pm to 3.15pm.
  • Goldifox puppet show at Clare and Hadleigh Library.  The lively and innovative children’s puppet show Goldifox’ comes to Hadleigh and Clare Libraries on Friday 11 April. The show is interactive and funny and ideal for children aged 4-9. There is a show at Clare at 10.30am and later at Hadleigh at 2.30pm. Tickets are £5 per child and adults go free. Contact the library to book a ticket.
  • Sudbury Library – All children are welcome at Easter crafts sessions on 14, 15, 16, 17 and 19 April.  There will be lots of Easter themed fun each of these days from 10.30am-12noon with the 19 April session running from 2pm to 3.30pm.
  • All Suffolk Libraries will be closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday (18, 20 and 21st April) but any loans will have their due dates amended to take account of this.
