EXCITING CIRCUS OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUNG PERFORMERS

SeaChange Arts and Dizzy O’Dare host a free tightwire and clowning workshop at The Drill House.

THE WIRE & THE CLOWN WORKSHOP

Local young performers will have an opportunity to explore two staple circus disciplines when Seachange Arts’ resident company, Dizzy O’Dare host a free workshop, ‘The Wire & the Clown’ on Wednesday 10 May.

The workshop will offer 12-18 year olds the chance to take their first steps on the tightwire and explore the theatrical world of the clown.

Dizzy O’Dare have been resident company at The Drill House since August last year and have appeared at the Out There Festival on a number of occasions.  The company is made up of partners, Alana Jones and Mike Imerson.

Mike is a trained actor and street performer, Alana, a dancer and tightwire artist, who graduated from Laban, London and the National Centre for Circus Arts.

“This is a super opportunity for young performers to work with professional artists,” says SeaChange’s Siobhan Johnson.  “They’ll get try out some signature circus skills and learn how to develop drama around the tightwire.”

“They don’t need any circus experience.  Anyone with a dance, theatre or gymnastic background would benefit from it.”

The workshop forms part of a programme of work around Dizzy O’Dare’s new show ‘Rise’, which is being developed at The Drill House and will be performed there in October.  Produced by Seachange, the show is a semi-autobiographical light-hearted exploration of Mike and Alana’s experience working as performers and living as a couple.

The Wire and the Clown workshop takes place at The Drill House on Wednesday 10 May, 5.15-6.45pm.

The workshop is free, but places are limited and should be booked in advance. Dizzy O’Dare’s Rise is performed at the Drill House on Saturday 21 October.
