Fairhaven Garden –Summer Holidays Family Adventures

Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden at South Walsham in the Norfolk Broads has a busy programme of special family adventure activities during the summer holidays.

Wildlife Wednesdays, weekly Treasure Hunts and special activities with Wild4Adventure, Canoe Trails, Forest Night Adventure, Ghost Walk and to round of the summer the Big Wild Day on August 31 are all in the schedule.

Treasure Hunt, every Sunday – July 24, 31, August 7, 14, 21 and 28, 10am to 5pm. Go on a treasure hunt through the woodland garden to win a small prize. Included in garden entry charge.

Canoe Trails with Free Spirit Canoe Tours on Sundays at 1.30pm and 3pm, July 24, 31, August 7, 14 and 21. £18 adult, £12.50 child 10-16 years, £9.50 child 5-9 years. Price includes garden entry. Booking is advisable.

Wild4Adventure – weekly family activities – July 26, Shelter Building, August 2, Awesome Archery, August 9, Tracking Skills, August 16, Hunter-Gatherers, August 23, Awesome Archery, August 30, Camp Fire Cook Out. Each activity runs from 10.30am to 1pm and costs adult £15 and child £10 (includes garden entry charge). Booking in advance essential.

Wildlife Wednesdays – July 27, Frolicking Frogs, August 3, Hooray for Hegehogs, August 10, Marvellous Mammels, August 17, Hooterrific Owls, August 24, Dazzling Dragonflies. Each event runs from 11am to 3pm and is included in the garden entry charge.

Ghost Walk, August 3, 6.30pm to 8pm. Enjoy a spine-tingling ramble through the woods listening to the myths and legends of Fairhaven Garden. Included in garden entry charge.

Forest Night Adventure, August 20, 8pm to 10pm. Experience the magic of the woodland garden at night with Jon Tyler of Wildforwoods; an evening adventure of astronomy, wildlife and sensory discovery – rounded off with just a touch of night magic. £8.50 adult; £5.50 child. Age 8+. Booking is essential. Sorry no dogs allowed.

Big Wild Day, August 31, 11am to 3pm. Go wild at Fairhaven for the day. Have-a-go at hedge-craft, cook out with fire-craft, go on a tree safari, meet the creatures from Wild Touch, storytelling, creature crafts, face painting and more. Included in garden entry charge.

Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden is at South Walsham NR13 6DZ, nine miles east of Norwich, signposted off A47 at B1140 junction, t. 01603 270449, [email protected]www.fairhavengarden.co.uk. The garden is open daily all year from 10am to 5pm (closed Christmas Day), and on Wednesdays until 9pm to the end of August, free entry to tearoom, gift shop and plant sales. Garden entry charge is £6.50 adult, £5.90 concessions, £3.65 child (under 5 free).

There is wheelchair access throughout the garden, including a Sensory Garden and an accessible boat for trips on the broad from April to October (additional charge). Visitors requiring special facilities are advised to telephone in advance, mobility scooters available.

Dogs are welcome on leads; small charge to cover poop scoop.
