The film club will be back at the end of the month with Icelandic drama, RAMS (15) on Monday 24 April at 7.30 pm.  Estranged brothers Gummi and Kiddi are dedicated sheep farmers in rural Iceland.  When an outbreak of disease threatens their flocks, the two must co-operate to save their way of life.

RAMS is steeped in a specific regional culture and is ravishingly shot against the volcanic landscape with a mixture of lyricism and naturalism.  Mark Kermode described RAMS as both hilarious and heartbreaking, while Allan Hunter in the Daily Express wrote that RAMS ‘is a film to seek out and treasure.’  Written and directed by Grimur Hakonarson.  Iceland/Denmark 2015.  93minutes. In Icelandic with English subtitles.

Before then, the Fisher will be screening MAGGIE’S PLAN (15) on Monday 10 April at 7.30 pm.

Maggie longs to start a family and becomes involved in a love triangle with her professor and his wife.  This perfectly cast comedy of manners stars Greta Gerwig, Ethan Hawke and Julianne Moore, who is terrific as a brilliant and self-absorbed academic.

Rebecca Miller directed this New York set drama which has been compared to the work of Woody Allen and described in Time Out as ‘intelligent and screw-ball funny with clever and complicated female characters’.

The following week, A BIGGER SPLASH (15) shows on Monday 17 April at 7.30 pm.

While taking a holiday on a sun baked Mediterranean island with her filmmaker boyfriend, rock star Marianne receives an unexpected visit from an old flame and his seductive daughter.  A magnificent Ralph Fiennes continues his comic renaissance in this stylish, unorthodox thriller, which also stars Tilda Swinton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Dakota Johnson. ‘A feast for the eyes and mind’.  Robbie Collin in The Telegraph.
