Gainsborough Library and Creative Arts East are marking the final months of the Suffolk Libraries Presents project in style, with several eagerly anticipated screenings at the library before the scheme comes to a formal close in September.

However, the end of the project (which is funded by Arts Council England) won’t stop the library from continuing to hold screenings on a regular basis in future, especially as it’s clear that there’s a large demand from the community for it to keep doing so.

Since its first Suffolk Libraries Presents evening in September 2015, Gainsborough Library has showcased 8 event screenings within its walls, giving audiences the opportunity to enjoy musicals, special documentaries and West End productions on the big screen.

Mandy Grimwood, manager of Gainsborough library said: “We were excited to get involved with the Suffolk Libraries Presents programme because we knew it would be a fantastic opportunity to show special screenings which are difficult to access in areas like this.”

“We were particularly excited about the prospect of being able to have screenings of musicals and special events which are usually only accessible to London audiences. Through this scheme, our community would be able to enjoy these performances at a very low cost, in a location on their doorstep. Audience feedback has been very positive. People really enjoy the opportunity to see something they usually wouldn’t come across, and it’s been a terrific opportunity for participants to be social and enjoy their afternoon here at the library.

“We’d love to continue showing films here after the Suffolk Libraries presents programme finishes. We plan to keep showing films which are suitable both for families and for older audiences, ensuring that we continue offering a wide range of showings for all our attendees.”

Upcoming screenings at Gainsborough library include the family favourite Zootropolis on Saturday 29th July, and two critically claimed event screenings: San Francisco Opera: Showboat on Saturday 12th August and The Railway Children, originally filmed live at The National Railway Museum in York, on Saturday 19th September.
