Galloper Offshore Wind Farm Peel Ports Great Yarmouth

Reaction to Galloper Offshore Wind Farm Announcement

Reaction statement from Great Yarmouth Borough Council to the announcement today (Friday, April 15) by Galloper Wind Farm Limited (GWFL) that Peel Ports Great Yarmouth has been chosen as the Siemens wind turbine tower assembly location and installation base for this offshore windfarm project.

Peter Wright, Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s Economic Development Officer, said: “This announcement is great news for the Port, for Great Yarmouth and the wider region, helping to support job creation and economic growth.

“Great Yarmouth is already world renowned as England’s offshore energy sector capital and this investment reflects confidence in the local economy, the skills of the workforce, the port facilities and the borough’s status as a Centre of Offshore Renewable Engineering (CORE).

“The borough is well placed to benefit from the significant investment in energy planned for East Anglia in the next five years, particularly offshore wind, as the region has some of the best conditions anywhere in the world to develop large-scale offshore wind projects.

“Great Yarmouth has already been chosen as the operations and maintenance base for the Dudgeon Offshore Windfarm, and last month was announced by ScottishPower Renewables as their selected port for construction and installation activities for the £2.5bn East Anglia ONE offshore windfarm.

“The borough council is committed to working with partners to build on creating conditions for further private and public investment, ensuring the borough and wider region is best placed to capture sustainable growth and its benefits for local communities and businesses.”
