Griff-Rhys-Jones-Affloat-One-Man-in-Three-Boats

The River Waveney Trust (RWT) and Diss Corn Hall are pleased to announce that Griff Rhys Jones will be appearing in Diss on Saturday 19 October 2013 (8pm) at an event to support the Trust and Diss Corn Hall.

Griff Rhys Jones Afloat – One Man in Three Boats will feature Griff talking about his lifetime love affairwith boats.  His father brought him to Suffolk 50 years ago by wooden boat which later prompted him to settle by a river in the county.  Griff will also tell tales of his own explorations of estuaries, rivers, seas and canals, some of which feature in his books To the Baltic and Rivers.

Proceeds from the event at Diss Corn Hall will be shared between the Corn Hall Trust and the River Waveney Trust.

Angela Sykes, Diss Corn Hall manager, is thrilled Griff is coming to the venue. She said, “Griff’s love of rivers and the countryside around it is well known and we are delighted he will be with us at the Corn Hall.  Tickets have already been selling well and we look forward to an entertaining event which will benefit the Corn Hall and the River Waveney Trusts.”

Ticket prices are £9, £8 for concessions and £7.50 for friends of Diss Corn Hall.  Tickets can be purchased online at www.disscornhall.co.uk, through the Box Office on 01379 652241 or at Diss Corn Hall, The Old Stables, beside the Corn Hall, St Nicholas Street, Diss IP22 4LB. Box office open 11am – 4pm Monday to Friday and 11am – 2pm Saturday.

Earlier the same day, Griff will be attending an event for RWT members where he will officially open the new River Waveney Study Centre at Earsham near Bungay.

The Centre, on the site of the former Otter Trust, will use its 32 acres, river frontage, lakes, walks and buildings to offer educational and entertainment events celebrating the Waveney. Opening to the public in Spring 2014, the Centre is already working with local schools and colleges to bring education and wildlife closer together.
