Halesworth-Arts-Festival-News-Update-Oct-2013

We have three pieces of news about the Halesworth Arts Festival, which starts on Saturday week (12th) and runs until Sunday 27th. All shows are at The Cut Arts Centre in Halesworth and start at 7.30pm. The shows by Dervish (18th) and the Cotton Club Revue on the last night (27th) are now sold out.

For the opening night Roger Lloyd Pack will now join Ruthie Culver and Utter Jazz in Look, Stranger, a celebration of the music of Benjamin Britten and the words of WH Auden. Among the many events celebrating Britten’s Centenary, there’s nothing quite like this: Ruthie Culver and her UtterJazz quartet weave their intimate chamber improvisations through Britten’s rich melodies and harmonies, evolving each song through a kaleidoscope of jazz and world music influences.

These beautifully re-imagined versions of songs from On This IslandFish in the Unruffled Lakes and Cabaret Songs are complemented by readings of WH Auden

Each song becomes a kaleidoscope of jazz and world music influences.  Roger replaces Simon Russell Beale, who is less available than he thought he would be.

We are thrilled with this week’s news that Alice Oswald has won this year’s £25000 Warwick Prize – the first poet ever to do so. In partnership with The Poetry Trust, HAF is proud to present Alice on Monday 21st, a rare opportunity to hear her reciting her winning work Memorial from memory. The work is her interpretation of Homer’s The Iliad.

Lastly, it is something of a tradition that HAF presents an evening supporting the work of the World Land Trust. Bill Oddie will now be joining musician Sarah Class on Friday 25th and will be talking to Sarah about her work, composing music for BBC Wildlife programmes such as Africa, Madagascar and The Meerkats.
