Harleston & Waveney Arts Trail Open Studios 2016

Harleston & Waveney Arts Trail 2016

The very popular Harleston & Waveney Arts Trail annual open studios event this year offers public access to twenty-five professional artists’ studios with drawings, paintings, prints, textiles and mosaics on display, giving valuable insight into how their artwork is produced.

It will take place from 11am-6 pm over two consecutive weekends from Saturday 21st – Sunday 22nd May and the following Bank Holiday weekend Saturday 28th – Monday 30th May and entry is free.

Two preview exhibitions start with an exhibition of the Collective’s work at the Pennoyer Centre, Pulham St Mary from 27th April – 17th May, Monday – Saturday, 9-4pm.

This will be followed by ‘Meet the Artist’ and their mini works in the foyer of the River Waveney Trust, Old Harleston Road, Earsham, Bungay, NR35 2AF at 12 noon on Sunday 15th May. Entry is free and the café is open at both venues.

Several artists will also be offering individual previews in their studios before the open studios event. There will be additional exhibitions of the Collective’s work at Wingfield Barns in August, the River Waveney Study Centre Café during the Waveney and Blyth Arts Sculpture Trail in August and the Peter Pears Gallery, Aldeburgh during the Food and Drink Festival in September.

The artists opening their studios this year are all linked to the Waveney Valley region stretching from North Suffolk to South Norfolk.  To celebrate this the Collective published the book ‘Waveney Reflections, From Brockdish to Bungay, A Portrait of the River’ in autumn 2015 with a grant from the South Norfolk Council Community Action Fund. The book reflects the artists’ personal visual and written responses to the River Waveney. Sales across the region have been very good and the book, priced £12, will be available at all preview exhibitions, artists’ open studios and group exhibitions throughout the year.

Full details can be obtained in the Trail brochures which will be available at various locations from April onwards including galleries, pubs, restaurants, Information Centres and libraries in the region and the HWAT website www.hwat.org.uk
