Heritage Open Days

This year sees the 20th anniversary of Heritage Open Days (HODs) in the UK, and 10 years of Norwich’s Heritage Economic and Regeneration Trust (HEART) co-ordinating the events locally. Your help is needed in making this the best year yet, for the festival which runs from Thursday 11th to Sunday 14th September 2014.

HEART are looking for volunteers to give a hand across all kinds of activities before, during and after the HODs weekend. HODs Ambassador roles include event stewardship, brochure distribution, office support, social media coverage, photography, collecting feedback and more.

This year’s Heritage Open Days festival is shaping up to be a bumper year, with 226 events so far confirmed for Norwich and Norfolk! The brochure, covering Norwich, Broadland, Thetford, Great Yarmouth, South Norfolk, North Norfolk and further afield, will be out on Monday 4th August.

Heritage Open Days (HODs) is England’s largest and most popular voluntary cultural event, celebrating the country’s fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to events and interesting properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission. The annual programme includes open buildings, guided tours, exhibitions, talks, family activities, music recitals and re-enactments.

Carrie-Anne Elsden, Heritage Open Days Project Assistant at HEART, said: “Heritage Open Days offers people a really fantastic opportunity to get involved this region’s rich heritage, as well as develop a wide variety of valuable skills. Individuals can volunteer at events going on in Norwich and around Norfolk by stewarding and becoming HODs ambassadors, creating a real ‘buzz’ around this year’s brilliant HODs offer via social media, or by taking attention-grabbing photographs, or helping out behind the scenes with ticketing and bookings.”
