BUNGAY FILM CLUB

A very happy New Year to you all.

If you’ve made a resolution to become a member of the Bungay Film Club and enjoy half-price cinema for the rest of the year*, this is the month to join.  Annual membership is still an extraordinary bargain at only £10, but will only be available until the end of January.  Your last opportunity to subscribe will be in the Fisher bar before our screening of LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP.  If you prefer to avoid the queue, please be in touch soon to arrange another way to join.

There is plenty to while away the long winter evenings at the Fisher this January, including Fisher Theatre Cinema screenings of THE NICE GUYS (15) on Monday 9, BEN-HUR (12A) on Monday 16 and LONDON HAS FALLEN (15) on Monday 23 January.  All shows start at 7.30 pm.

The film club returns at the end of the month with the wonderful LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP (U) on Monday 30 January 2017.  Written and directed by Whit Stillman and starring Kate Beckinsale, the film has a terrific supporting cast including Stephen Fry, Chloe Sevigny, James Fleet and Tom Bennett. Ireland/France/USA 2016.  93 minutes.

This adaptation of Jane Austen’s novella, LADY SUSAN, lacks none of Austen’s characteristic wit. Lady Susan, an attractive young widow, seeks refuge with her sister-in-law from scandalous rumours.   Naturally, Susan’s first priority is to secure her own future and that of her reluctant daughter, Frederica.  Kate Beckinsale is a treat as the scheming Susan in this wonderfully exuberant and hugely entertaining comedy of manners.

LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP ‘is often laugh-out-loud funny, it is beautiful to watch (it was shot around Dublin) and has far broader appeal than standard period drama.’  The Sunday Independent.
