Salford 1959, and 17 year old Jo is desperate to break free from her vulgar, wayward and man-hunting mother, Helen. One of the most influential plays of its generation, it burst onto the stage in 1961 in a production that took the West End by storm. Part of the post-war kitchen sink movement, the play later became a classic of British cinema.

Provocative and sexually ambiguous, Sloane soon has both Kath and her brother Ed competing for his favours. But all is not as it seems. Behind Sloane’s nonchalant demeanour lies a calculating psychopath with a dark and secretive past. Seduction, blackmail and murder lie waiting in the wings.
