Leiston-Christmas-Fair-Saturday-7th-December-2013

The Leiston Business Association is supporting the Long Shop Museum with their Christmas Fair this year and inviting residents and visitors to join them on Saturday 7th December between 10am and 2pm.

Parking will be free in both Sizewell Road and the High Street car parks from 8am to 6pm to support retailers and encourage shoppers to visit the town.  Thanks go to Cllr Andrew Nunn and Suffolk Coastal District Council.

Father Christmas will be arriving in Solar Car Park around 9.30am where, along with his elves, he will board a tractor and trailer to travel in ‘country style’ along Sizewell Road, down the High Street and along Main Street to arrive at his grotto in the Long Shop Museum ready to hand out presents to all the good and well behaved children who come to visit him. Tickets for Santa are available on the day for a £2 donation.

There will be many seasonal attraction at the Museum including Christmas crafts for the children, jewellery making, tombola’s, books and gifts, decorations and lucky dips, not forgetting the ‘guess the weight of the Christmas Cake’ and the Long Shop grand Christmas draw. Outside, emergencies permitting, the fire brigade will be here with their tender, Leiston Works Railway will be able to update you on their fantastic achievements so far as well as their future plans.

Aromas from the mulled apple juice and mince pies are sure to get the taste buds in the mood for Christmas too. The butchers in town will be holding sausage tastings and freshly made burgers will help both warm and fuel you to dance along to the disco in the Long Shop’s top car park.

Clog dancers Barley Brigg will be performing during the day to keep you entertained, the Leiston Bandwill be performing Carols for you to sing along to and Cheeky the Chimp will be walking down to the Long Shop from the Film Theatre between 11am and 12noon.

The Leiston Business Association and it’s members are organising a competition to find Father Christmas around town. Two lucky children will win portable DVD players donated by EDF Energywith categories for under 7s and 8 to 14 year olds; but don’t despair, generosity’s the name of the game and all entrants will receive consolation prizes. Whilst visiting the local shops, look out for pictures of Father Christmas hiding in the windows and complete an entry form which you can pick up entry forms in various shops or at the LBA stand on the day. All forms will need to be handed into the stand by 1.30pm for the prize draw.

Long Shop calendars will be on sale, so if you need a present for that ‘hard to buy for’ relative, give them something they can enjoy all year, or purchase some of the lovely local crafts and produce from independent shops in the town or stalls at the Fair.
