The 15-seat café, which opened initially in June, is run by NANSA, a local charity that supports Norfolk people with disabilities.

Currently one of NANSA’s service users is being trained at the café and is gaining accredited qualifications and practical experience under the charity’s ‘Train and Trade’ initiative.

Hazel Haresign, Project Co-ordinator at Hammerton Court, said: “The café has been welcomed by staff, patients and visitors alike and is proving a real success.

“It has been great working with NANSA and we are pleased that this initiative will develop further, as we hope to soon have someone from the charity working in the café each day of the week.

“Everyone at Hammerton Court is delighted that we not only have a great café facility, but are helping NANSA’s service users to learn and develop new skills at the same time.”

NANSA has created ‘Train and Trade’ as a range of social enterprises to enable its service users to gain the skills and qualifications to work towards employment in the future.

Ros Czarnowska, Head of Operations and Services at NANSA, said: “We are extremely pleased to have this opportunity to work in partnership with Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust and provide our service users with an opportunity to gain qualifications and practical experience that will help them achieve their potential and aims.”

The café, which operates under the name of ‘Wrap and Roll’, is open 10am-2pm, Monday to Friday. The menu includes bacon rolls, halloumi rolls, jacket potatoes, paninis, wraps, cheese scones, croissants and brownies.

NANSA is able to provide catering for meetings, training courses and other small functions at the Julian Hospital.
