CONGRATULATIONS TO

* Charlotte (Tosh) Lee-Smith and Steve Peet on their recent engagement.

* Angie and Colin Wheelhouse on the birth of their second child Charlie Mario (6lb 6oz) – brother for Ethan – on Saturday 27 June.

* Toby Tibbenham and Evie Rogers on their recent engagement.

* Kath Johnson and her England O45 colleagues on winning the recent Home Nations Tournament in Wakefield beating Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Kath played in her usual whole-hearted style over the three games scoring a goal, getting a blooded knee and an undeserved card!

Murray and Jon – still friends!

* Murray Graham and Jon Aldridge on representing Scotland and England O55s respectively in last weekend’s Home Nations Tournament in Edinburgh won by England. Goalkeeper Murray played a full game against Wales and a half game against the ‘old enemy’ without conceding a goal. Who said practice doesn’t pay?!

* The GB men’s squad that has reached the semis of the World League Semi-Final in Antwerp. The top three teams qualify for the Rio Olympics but with India, who have also reached the semis, already qualified for Rio as Asian Champions all four teams are assured of Olympic qualification regardless of the outcome of today’s semis in which GB play Australia and Belgium play India. Very well done to coach Bobby Crutchley and all other members of the squad who will join the GB Ladies in Rio. What a double!

OTHER NEWS AND COMMENT

* It is a big ‘thank you’ to the 140 members and friends of the club who supported last Sunday’s very enjoyable and successful event Strawberry Luncheon with special thanks to our host June Ridley. After early rain the weather brightened up nicely to enable us to enjoy the event in delightful surroundings. Thanks are also due, of course, to the organising committee.

* Please see the website for 2015/16 training dates and times.

* The Shotford Bridge between the club and town was due to reopen next Monday but is now likely to remain closed for another two to three weeks due to unexpected problems found during the repairs.

With kind regards
Mike Denham
