Monday Movies Caleys Cocoa Cafe

Caley’s Cocoa Café is to host its popular Monday Movies on Monday 13 April from 10am – 4pm. The café, located in The Guildhall, Norwich, screens local archive film for free one Monday of every month. For its fourth screening, the event will focus on the region’s proud sporting traditions in two films, ‘Our Sporting Lives’ and ‘Games, Goals and Glory’.

On Monday, the café will screen a montage of silent archive films, including enduring images of sporting events in East Anglia in a classic collection of amateur and professional films.  It includes films from the 1920s to the 1960s, showing everything from egg and spoons races, to the annual Boat Race and nail-biting Canaries matches of yesteryear.

Caley’s customers are welcome to put their feet up and enjoy a hot drink and slice of cake, while they watch our predecessors exercising and enjoying the many sporting activities the region has to offer to this day.

Housed in The Guildhall’s magnificent courtroom, Caley’s Cocoa Café remains a bastion of one of Norwich’s most iconic brands. Caley’s Cocoa Café, was last year taken on by Norwich Heritage Economic and Regeneration Trust (HEART) to help with its charitable purposes, whilst also helping to keep alive another well-loved Norwich heritage brand following the Trust’s acquisition of Colman’s Mustard Shop & Museum in 2009.

The archive film compilations are a worthwhile legacy from HEART’s successful Interreg IVA funded Digital Heritage Project, which was delivered as a partnership with Rouen based film agency Pôle Image and UEA’s East Anglian Film Archive.
