Mustard Theatre Company.

Established in 2004 as a touring amateur theatre group taking drama to venues in Suffolk that didn’t traditionally have access to theatre/drama, Mustard Theatre Company has evolved and now takes on dramatic productions that stretch themselves and their audiences. We have stayed loyal to our touring status and now include top class theatre’s in the region as well as arts venues.

Mustard Theatre Company celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2014, by touring two very different productions. They presented Death and the Maiden in June, followed by Little Voice in November. Both received critical acclaim, demonstrating the talent and dedication contained within this small group.

Now in their twelfth year Mustard Theatre Company have to date produced a total of 22 plays, featuring more than 30 different performers in a multitude of venues across Suffolk. Always performing for ‘one night only’ means that the set has be built, lights rigged, and technical issues resolve all on the day of performance. Then following the final curtain, it is all hands on deck to strike the set and pack, (or sometimes cram) everything in to the back of one small van. With minimal stage crew, those who perform with Mustard soon learn how to wield a screwdriver, connect a lighting rig and dress a set. There’s never a dull moment when you’re out on tour!

Mustard Theatre Company love a challenge and their next production, Ten Times Two, is no exception.

With a cast of just three actors and one simple set, the cast (two male; one female) will cover a time span of more than 700 years.

What’s more the female role requires the performer to portray ten very different characters from various periods in history, countries and cultures – a truly demanding role. While the male lead must undergo a clear but slow transition from start to finish. Under the expert guidance of director Steven Phipps this fascinating plot is sure to captivate audiences, as will his own appearance on stage as a mysterious overseer.

Ten Times Two

Mustard Theatre Company’s Spring production.

Ten Times Two – The Eternal Courtship.

When Ephraim, an evil doer cursed with immortality, bets he can win the love of a serving girl in 1399, it launches a romantic pursuit spanning the centuries through to Modern Times. The couple meets every 75 years as Ephraim schemes to capture the heart of his quarry who re-incarnates as a dizzying array of different women through the years.

This is their fourth time under the leadership of Director Steven Phipps – who also takes to the stage in this production!

We believe that this is the first time this play, by Canadian playwright David Belke, has been performed in England.
