Voice Project concert

Norwich artist has created a unique piece of art for Voice Project concert – and an ideal last minute gift idea!

A new illustrated view of Norwich Cathedral has been commissioned by the city’s Voice Project Choir – and very limited edition prints are available to buy!

The illustration by Norwich artist Beverley Gene Coraldean was commissioned for the poster and flyer for the choir’s new work Between Stars which will be performed in the iconic cathedral on 21 January. But when the image was uploaded to their website people began asking how to get copies.

‘As soon as Beverley’s amazing picture appeared on our site people wanted to know about it and how they could get copies’ said Voice Project co-Director Sian Croose ‘Beverley has generously allowed us to make excusive screen prints and profits will help towards our education work and support bursaries for future choir members’.

The illustration shows an unusual view of the cathedral at night time with the spire and main body seen through the cloisters. Beverley made an original pen and ink illustration which she scanned and manipulated into a three colour image.

‘I spoke to (VP co-Directors) Jonathan and Sian about the piece they were creating, which is about sleep, then tried to make an illustration that had a dreamlike quality’ said Beverley. ‘I tried to give the impression of peeking through the darkness into the light beyond.’

The A3 sized three colour screen prints, individually numbered and signed by the artist and printed onto heavy black card, are suitable for framing. They are available via www.voiceproject.co.uk/shop . The Voice Project’s Jonathan Baker noted ‘I think these could make an ideal last minute Christmas present, there is still time to post for Christmas but we can also arrange personal collection in central Norwich. Anyone interested in this can email [email protected]

Ms Coraldean is originally from London but came to Norwich to study at Norwich University of the Arts. She loved the city so much that 12 years later she’s still here. In addition to illustrations for other Voice Project concerts at City Hall and St Andrews Hall she has had commissions for large-scale mural work from Norwich BID for The City of Stories project, Redwell Brewery in Trowse and designed wallpaper for the eye clinic at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. She has designed illustrated maps for many local charities and businesses including Norfolk Wildlife Trust, Norwich Lanes and Cornwall Energy (who despite the name are based in Norwich!).

The Voice Project Choir will perform Between the Stars in Norwich Cathedral on 21 January at 7pm and 9pm. It is a new promenade song cycle performance featuring the 150 member open access choir alongside professional soloists and musicians. Some of the country’s leading composers have written music for the concert which will also see the magnificent cathedral spectacularly lit to reveal hitherto hidden features.

Between Stars is the first part of their ambitious project The Arms of Sleep, a series of pieces exploring ideas around sleeping and waking. Jon and Sian have begun work with sleep scientists and designers to create this sequence of world–class choral theatre. It will also see the choir performing as part of the 2017 Norfolk & Norwich Festival before going on to site specific performances at major festivals around the country in 2018.

Tickets for the concert are available from www.voiceproject.co.uk and Norwich Cathedral Shop.
