Nominees for the Bafta and Brit Awards

David Bowie, the British actor and musician who passed away a year ago, has been nominated posthumously at the Brit Award on Saturday 14th of January. He has been shortlisted in the Best British Male Solo Artist and British Album of the Year categories. The ceremony will be held at The O2 in London on 22nd February 2017. Bowie, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame won the Brit Awards in 2014 in the Best British Male category.

Numerous accolades will be handed out to films and documentaries from various nationality that featured at British cinemas the past year. The nominations for The EE British Academy Film Awards 2017 was announced on Tuesday 10th January by Dominic Cooper and Sophie Turner from Game of Thrones at 195 Piccadilly in London. They came straight from Los Angeles, after attending the Golden Globe awards.

Damien Chazelle’s film known as La La Land has been nominated in not less than 11 categories, which include Original Screenplay, Best Director, Leading Actress, and Leading Actor. This film is chased closely by Arrival and Nocturnal Animals. In both films Amy Adam have been recognised in nine categories each. Nominees for the Leading Actress include Emma Stone, Natalie Portman, Meryl Streep, and Emily Blunt. On the other hand, La La Land’s Ryan Gosling is the favourite in the Leading Actor category, and he is closely followed by Viggo Mortensen, Andrew Garfield, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Casey Affleck.

Tom Ford, the US fashion designer has been recognised for two Baftas. He is nominated in the Best Director category for the very first time for Nocturnal Animals. Tom Hanks only got recognition for the Critics’ Choice Awards while his film Sully has been greatly snubbed. Contenders for the Best Film category are Manchester By The Sea, I, Arrival, Moonlight, and of course La La Land. Daniel Blake has already earned a top prize at the Cannes Film Festival, by scooping the much coveted Palme d’Or.
