Norfolk Midsummer Gardens At Their Best

Gardens in July are reaching their summer peak with borders overflowing with the widest range of plants in full flower. The National Gardens Scheme (NGS) has 18 gardens opening during the month throughout Norfolk so you will have ample opportunities to wallow in the sights and scents of some glorious floral displays. Your visit will also help provide vital funds for the charities the NGS supports,

Sunday 3rd July 2011

Banhams Barn at Wymondham NR18 9RB is a 1 acre garden with splendid herbaceous borders, large pond and kitchen garden to admire and plants are available to buy. The home made teas on the walled terrace are in aid of “Help for Heroes”

Sunday 10th July 2011

Bank Farm at Saddlebow, Kings Lynn PE34 3AS is a new garden opening for the NGS and has many features including perennial borders with splashes of annuals, large fish pond and walks along the banks of the river Ouse. There will also be a demonstration of wood turning by a professional wood turner.

Holme Hale Hall in Holme Hale IP25 7ED has a contemporary walled kitchen garden and front garden designed and planted by Chelsea winner Arne Maynard.
The garden also has large herbaceous borders and a traditional greenhouse.

Sunday 24th July 2011

Dale Farm in Dereham NR19 2EA has two acres of exuberantly planted borders and a spring fed lake with extensive water gardens.A kitchen garden and wood sculptures complete the picture. A wide range of plants used in the garden are also for sale.
Garden owner Sally Watts said “Both my husband and I lost our mothers to cancer and they had help and care from Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Help the Hospices which are charities supported by the NGS. It is lovely to be able to share our garden and at the same help such good causes”.

The Exotic Garden at Thorpe, Norwich NR1 1UL is an exotic city garden covering an acre with the largest tree house in Norfolk. The garden is a riot of colour in July and has a wonderful sub tropical feel.

In all the gardens you can relax and enjoy the renowned homemade teas.
