From traditional Cromer crabs, samphire grown in the marshes, Brancaster oysters, local game and Morston mussels, North Norfolk is renowned for food and drink that is grown, reared and caught in the county.

The North Norfolk Food & Drink Festival between 31 August and 1 September 2013 at Holkham Hall is a celebration of all that is best about North Norfolk food and includes 60 of its finest food and drink producers. Cookery demonstrations and children’s activities including cup cake decorating and face painting will keep the whole family entertained.

The Red Lion at Cromer was recently awarded 4-star inn status and received a Dining Award from the AA. The Red Lion is over two hundred years old, retaining many of its original features and offers sublime Norfolk food in its restaurant, including Norfolk sausages, venison and Cromer Crabs. It’s also got sublime sea views and rooms; perfect after an indulgent meal in the restaurant.

Another local gastronomic gem is the Dales Country House hotel and restaurant; a 2 AA rosetted restaurant in Sheringham. Named after the local lords of the manor who frequented the Dales in its heyday, chefs at its Upchers restaurant make their own bread and are renowned for their home-made biscuits served with coffee or afternoon tea. Before an A La Carte meal, with specialities including cannon of local lamb and 28-day matured fillet of beef, relax in the comfortable Kings Bar with a selection of fine wines and local ales.

The Banningham Crown is a traditional 17th Century pub and restaurant which serves pub food at its finest and includes a special menu for children. With a sheltered garden and patio for summer and log fires in winter it’s an ideal setting any time of the year. Want to sample local food and ales? Head down to the pub’s Norfolk Beer and Food Nights on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th September to enjoy a seasonal menu plus local ales and ciders (£21.50 per head).

For a lunchtime treat take the family to Wroxham Barns restaurant selling delicious home-cooked fare.  The Haddock Chowder and Sunday lunches are not to be missed and to prove its fork to plate credentials its suppliers are listed on its website. After a light lunch or afternoon tea indulge in some shopping.

For those who love to get the day off to a good start with a full breakfast Heacham House B & B at King’s Lynn offers tea and homemade cakes on arrival and a freshly cooked breakfast which includes a variety of home-made bread and preserves, free-range rare breed bacon and award-winning local sausages.

After exploring Mannington Garden and its plants, thousands of roses, moated manor house and knot garden, enjoy its tea rooms at The Greedy Goose. Talented chef Helen Lewis provides an interesting range of homemade treats including delicious soups, tarts, cakes and biscuits, with specially made picnics and food to take away.  It is open every day that the gardens are open.
