Date: Sunday 7th July 2013

The extremely popular Norwich Lanes Summer Fayre is set to be even bigger this summer, covering a larger area of the Lanes than ever before! This free family event to be held on the last day of the Lord Mayor’s celebrations on Sunday 8th July, celebrates the uniqueness of the Norwich Lanes and includes a chance to sample its diverse shopping, music and cultural scene. This annual event, which, regularly attracts thousands of people to the lanes, is a thank you from the local independent businesses for the support it receives from the local community.

The fayre will take place from 11am until 6pm with some participating Lanes venues providing entertainment until much later into the night. This year will see, for the first time, the fayre branch out from St Benedicts Street and St Gregory’s Green to Pottergate, Lobster Lane and Bedford Street.

Expect a varied and enjoyable programme of music and entertainment throughout the day, including:

The Bedford Street Tea Party

Furthermore, The Bridewell Museum will be opening on the day between 12-4pm to join in the celebrations. This is the first time it has opened on a Sunday since its renovation and they will be offering a reduced entry price of £1. Plus, visitors will have the opportunity to pop into their secret nostalgic shop on Bridewell Alley. And not forgetting, the eclectic Birdcage will also be hosting their extremely popular post Summer Fayre party. Notes:

 Norwich Lanes Traders Association was set up in 2006 to represent the interests of the range of independent businesses trading within the historic quarter of Norwich city centre.

 The organisation primarily works to raise awareness of Norwich Lanes as a number one destination for shoppers, tourists, and socialising and targets people from within as well as outside of Norfolk.

 Independent shopping has grown in popularity as people search for an alternative to generic shopping malls and national chains. Today, the businesses within Norwich Lanes offer one of the UK’s best selections of unique and independent shops, mingling between an extensive collection of restaurants, cafés and bars.

 Norwich Lanes is also home to a wealth of heritage sites and beautiful architecture as well as theatres and museums. Throughout the year, many events are held within Norwich Lanes including music festivals, photographic and craft exhibitions, Norwich Fashion Week, and the famous Norwich Beer Festival.

 The Lanes Fayre could not be held without the enormous input of volunteers. The Norwich Lanes are looking for event stewards to volunteer on the day. If you are interested, please contact [email protected].
