Speculate is a one-off event taking place on Sunday 28th June at Norwich Puppet Theatre, offering free theatre workshops from 11am-6pm for anyone aged 16-25, followed by an evening of short plays. The plays featured include acts showcasing at this year’s Latitude festival, plus an open floor to showcase your own works!

The event has been organised by Daisy Minto, a young person studying at UEA, who is using the opportunity as a platform both to gain experience in arts event management and theatre production, and to highlight the importance of involving young people in live theatre in a variety of ways.

Speaking in advance of the event, Daisy said, “So far, it has been a brilliant experience, building the event and working towards getting young people involved in all aspects of theatre. Being a young person eager to get involved in the Arts, collaborating with somewhereto_ and Young Norfolk Arts Festival has given me the opportunity to do so on a scale I could only ever have dreamed of. I cannot wait to get this show on the road!”

General Manager of Norwich Puppet Theatre, Ian Woods, endorsed the project. “Norwich Puppet Theatre is pleased to be opening its doors to YNAF events, and in particular the somewhereto_ takeover which gives the audience an active role in running an event itself”.

Those looking to get involved can visit creativeartseast.co.uk/whats-on to book tickets for evening performances as well as a place on workshops in Directing, Script-writing and Devising. The workshops are being run by MA students of the University of East Anglia, one of whom will be taking a show to the Edinburgh Fringe later this year. Lucy Farrant, organiser of the Young Norfolk Arts Festival said “I am delighted that the somewhereto_ takeover is part of this year’s YNAF. The ethos of the Festival is to enable young people to participate in creative activities at all stages of their development. This project fits squarely within that ethos and I am looking forward very much to seeing it take off as well as takeover”.

Speculate is hosted by somewhereto_, a UK wide project delivered by Creative Arts East in the East of England, and funded by a £7m grant from the Big Lottery Fund to support its nationwide expansion to 2016. Helping 16-25 year olds access free spaces in their communities, to launch and develop creative and enterprising endeavours.
