A public consultation meeting on the redevelopment of St Clement’s Hospital is to be held on 5 and 6 September 2012, from 4pm to 8pm at The Hollies, St Clement’s Hospital in Ispwich. The plans on display will cover all aspects of the site development including traffic flows, new sporting amenities and open areas.
The site, now owned by Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, had been previously considered for redevelopment in 2008 and this new plan incorporates the public feedback from that application that there was to be less housing on the site.
Commercial Director Leigh Fleming said: “The move from St Clement’s has been several years in the planning. We no longer have inpatient services on site, having relocated these to a new facility on the Ipswich Hospital site. The sale of St Clement’s will fund this, and other, new mental health developments.”
The St Clement’s Hospital site covers 25 acres of land and the development plans include:
- residential development for up to 227 dwellings
- the retention and conversion of the principal Victorian hospital buildings
- community facilities including sports and open space provision
- a local park with play facilities
The bowling club is to remain with improved parking and club facilities with the golf course at the rear of the hospital not included in the sale as it is under private ownership. New sports changing and showering facilities will be developed which does mean the current social club will close on 31 August 2013.
Ms Fleming added: “With the retirement of the General Manager in 2013 the social club would like to make their last year one to remember. They will still be taking bookings up to the last day as well as continuing to run the bar and social events.
“We recognise the important part in local history that St Clement’s has played and we would welcome people to come and see the plans and tell us what they think.”
