Old beer barrels have been recycled to provide new dog watering stations at Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden, South Walsham. Two have been set up so far, near the tearoom and down by the staithe next to Fairhaven’s broad, with a third watering station coming soon.

Visitor Peter Brough’s dog, Pippa, sampled the new watering station. “It’s the first time we have visited Fairhaven. We are from Brownhills in the West Midlands and have travelled over for a short break before our niece, Emma’s graduation day at UEA.”

“We have really enjoyed exploring Fairhaven Garden and think that the beer barrels are a great idea. It means that you can ensure that your dog has easy access to fresh water.”

Dogs on leads are welcome at Fairhaven Garden. There is a dog entry charge (25p) to cover the costs of poop scoops, which are given to every dog owner. Annual dog memberships are also available, costing £2.50. Dog bins are sited in the gardens.

Fairhaven Garden is staging its annual Fun Dog Day on Sunday, September 10, in aid Yarmouth Greyhound Homefinders, featuring a dog show, agility activities, demonstrations, doggy stalls and games.

Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden is at South Walsham, nine miles east of Norwich, signposted off A47 at B1140 junction, www.fairhavengarden.co.uk, t. 01603 270449.

The garden is open daily all year from 10am to 5pm (closed Christmas Day), and on Wednesdays until 9pm to the end of August. Free entry to tearoom, gift shop and plant sales. Garden entry is adult £6.75, concessions £6.15, child £3.85 (under 5 free).

There is wheelchair access throughout the garden, including a Sensory Garden and an accessible boat for trips on the broad from April to October (additional charge). Visitors requiring special facilities are advised to telephone in advance, mobility scooters available.
