Members of the community who have been affected by cancer are being invited to a special open day taking place next month.

Great Yarmouth and Waveney’s Together Against Cancer (TAC) group will hold the event at the Louise Hamilton Centre at James Paget University Hospital on Friday 2 August from 2pm.

It has been designed to give anyone who has had cancer or has been affected by cancer, the chance to talk about their experiences with others in a relaxed environment.

TAC is spearheaded by members of the public whose lives have been touched by cancer. It is supported by HealthEast and the East of England Strategic Clinical Network for Cancer.

The group carries out a variety of different activities, including consulting patients and their families and reporting on the experiences people have of using local NHS cancer services. Its overall aim is to work on behalf of patients and carers to improve services.

Maggie Parsons, cancer and end of life programme manager with HealthEast, NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney’s Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “TAC gives people affected by cancer the chance to talk about their experiences and share their stories. 

“This not only helps them but also gives us, as health professionals, the chance to find out more about how well NHS services are working so that we can look for ways to improve the experiences which people have when accessing care still further. 

“We would encourage anyone who has been affected by cancer in any way to drop in at the open day and share their stories over a cup of tea in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.”
