27th Southwold Model Railway Exhibition

August 1st & 2nd, 2015

Saint Felix School, Halesworth Road (A1095), IP18 6SD

Southwold Model Railway Exhibition is the largest, and the only two-day, club organised model railway exhibition in East Anglia! Regularly attracting 2,500 – 3,000 visitors, from around the country, it caters for all aspects and levels of modelling interest, in fact from Toy Trains to Finescale Modelling! The multi-scale exhibition includes some twenty layouts and for the children there’s an opportunity to drive a model train, maybe Thomas!

Layouts with an East Anglian theme include Cromer 2008 (the station in Anglia Railways days); Summer Springs on the New Cut, a diorama featuring the railway approaches to Norwich from the east – displaying trains of varying periods, alongside the river Yare, complete with swans and a holiday cruiser! Thurston station (between Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds) as it was in the 1950s & ‘60s, with trains of the period.

World War II is represented by Overlord, a rail connected south coast dockside, (“Somewhere in England”) with preparations for the D-Day landings of 1944. Military vehicles (over eighty), rail locomotives & wagons and naval ships are featured, the destroyer, HMS Grenville, took nearly two years to build!
