Southwold U9s win Woodbridge Festival
Southwold U9s win at Woodbridge Festival

Southwold U9’s Undefeated at Woodbridge Festival

A fantastic opportunity for our players new to rugby this season to run out at their first festival alongside some more experienced teammates. A great days rugby played in the right spirit both on and off the pitch.
Pool matches with Colchester (35-20), Woodbridge (45-0), Ipswich YM (45-5) and Ipswich (35-20) saw Southwold come out on top.

In the final we met Felixstowe to take the festival win 25-0. The standard of rugby was superb as the players make the first transition from tag to tackle version of the game.

Players from all teams taking part should be commended on their play especially when the scoreline can be harsh and sometimes doesn’t reflect the superb quality of rugby on the pitch.

Southwold U11’s also had a fantastic weekend winning the Brandeston Tournament on Saturday against teams from Wymondham, Bury St Edmunds and Brandeston.

They then went on to win at the Woodbridge Festival utilising a swift defence to put pressure on the opposition, winning possession with quick, effective rucking in order to move the ball to the spaces, using the off- load to good effect.  The U11’s had to adapt to a more abrasive game against Colchester in the final, but competed well at the contact areas and breakdown to win the ball and score.  A great effort by the squad.

The U10’s had a good day and learnt a lot and were still smiling at the end of the festival.

The U8’s put in a great performance and were joint winners of their pool and just missed out on the final on try difference.

This Sunday sees the minis back on the common at Southwold for a training session.
