The month of May sees a diverse range of gardens opening for the National Gardens Scheme in Norfolk. From landscaped gardens and spacious parkland to the small but feature packed there is something to suit all tastes.

Has a large pond, lots of clematis, old roses, herbaceous plants and a wooded area. There are splendid views towards Wymondham Abbey

The Mowle Ludham NR29 5NP open (1.30-5.30)

Welcomes visitors to over 2 acres of gardens showing the National Collection of Gunnera, Japanese garden, pond, and a boardwalk into a wild area.

Hoveton Hall Gardens nr Wroxham NR12 8RJ open (10.30-5)

15-acre gardens and grounds taking you through the seasons. Featuring azaleas, rhododendrons and hydrangeas in woodland. Mature walled herbaceous garden, and redesigned walled kitchen garden. Tearooms open serving light lunches and afternoon tea. A new feature is a rare restored 19th century Iron Glasshouse.

This small peaceful garden has a modern interpretation of the classic garden, designed to draw your eye past the formality of the box-edged rooms and linking paths to the water meadows beyond. Three gardens open their gates in the scenic Broads area of Norfolk.

Has a two acre garden with mixed borders, raised vegetable beds and the traditional NGS homemade teas will be available. In addition there will be treasure hunt for children and Stalham brass band providing rousing entertainment!

Admission to the two gardens is £5 with all children under16 admitted free and represents really good value for a family day out.

How Hill Farm Ludham NR29 5PG open (1-5)

Reveals displays of azaleas and rhododendrons with many other plants to enjoy. There are vistas and views over the river Ant, Turf Fen Mill and Broad, so bring your camera for some great photos.

County Organiser Fiona Black said “ You can visit these three lovely broads gardens during the day. West View for a plantsman’s garden, How Hill with their wonderful views of the broads and marshes, and The Old Rectory for delicious teas, a brass band and children kept occupied with a treasure hunt. Entrance to all three gardens for a total of £8 and children under 16 are admitted free. It’s an absolute bargain and you will be supporting the National Gardens Scheme charities, which last year received over £2.6 million from garden owners”
