Free arts workshops for family carers in Stowmarket

Arts and wellbeing charity, Suffolk Artlink is delighted to be launching four new springtime Creative Company sessions for people who care for an adult family member in and around Stowmarket.

Our Creative Company project is designed to offer adult family carers a chance to take part in a bit of relaxing and sociable fun.

The sessions take place in Stowmarket, and are free to attend, both for you, and the adult for whom you care. No creative experience necessary, just come along and enjoy a couple of hours of joyful inspiration, led by one of our talented artists.

The two hour long creative sessions will be taking place in Stowmarket from next Thursday 2nd February 2017, and are free to attend.  Family carers are welcome to attend either on their own, or with the person for whom they care.

Candida Wingate, Suffolk Artlink Project Manager, said: “The arts workshops are run by experienced artists, however no creative experience is necessary to take part! We are less focused on the end product, and more on how valuable our participants find some time out from their day to day routine.

“Some family carers come along simply to enjoy a bit of time for themselves. Others find that our arts workshops offer a new way of being with the family member they care for, and enjoy the experience of sitting side by side, engaged in their own creative experiences.”

Sessions take place every second Thursday, 10 am – 12 noon, at the Redwood Lodge, Red Gables, Ipswich Road, Stowmarket, IP14 1BE.

  • Thursday 2nd February: Making things with community artist Caitlin Howells
  • Thursday 16th February: Making things with words with poet Dean Parkin
  • Thursday 2nd March: Printmaking with Linda Farrow
  • Thursday 16th March: Working with colour with Kasia Posen

Suffolk Artlink have a small pot of money to help with some transport costs should you need, so please get in touch with them if they can help.

Artist-led sessions will continue this summer and into the autumn, and the arts charity aims to establish regular, volunteer led, sessions in Stowmarket after this time.  Participants in the upcoming artist-led sessions will have a chance to shape the future of this longer term offer.
