JumpstART
The dance film from last term’s Bury St Edmund’s JumpstART module is now on Vimeo. You can watch it here.

Ruins is a site specific dance piece in the ruins and archways of Abbey Gardens. The piece was performed by students, was choreographed by Kayla St Claire and was filmed and edited by Jean Hogg. The music is by Paul Thompson from World Net Productions.

The next Jumpstart Module in Bury St Edmunds starts on 2nd September and will be in Textiles, Pattern and Printmaking. We’ll be working with artists Jacqueline Davies, Jules Oliver and Genista Dunham. Students will do silk painting, block printing, T-shirt painting, pattern making and screen printing.

Creative Employment Programme
There are 5 apprenticeships open to 16 to 24 year olds who are unemployed and 5 paid internships open to 18 to 24 year olds who are registered unemployed with Job Centre Plus.

Currently opportunities include stage management, web services and IT, front of house, marketing and communications among other things and are for people who have just left school or young who want to do something a bit different from traditional jobs and training while gaining experience that can be used in a wide range of employment.

For more information about current opportunities and how to apply see our Creative Employment Programme page here

Phonic
Well, the Phonic music inclusion project came to a close last month, with a BBQ at Colville House Youth Club and the regular musicians, Matt and Bryan, providing some cool beats-to-eat-burgers-by – it’s been a great experience working with the young people there and we hope to be back in the autumn with a brand new programme of music making opportunities.

In the meantime, we have were lucky enough to secure a little extra funding from The Garage, to run some summer activities at Colville House, so for the 3 weeks we ran music technology sessions with Carl Cole (back by special request) and DJ sessions with Tallulah Goodtimes and Dan Friend.

Creative Company
Suffolk Artlink’s art group for carers and cared for at Smiths Row Gallery in Bury St Edmunds have had their last artist-led session this week and will now begin to meet independently with the support of our Creative Volunteer.

Clown Round
Suffolk Artlink’s Clown Doctors have been leaving a trail of balloon pumps and spinning plates behind them as they were kept very busy at the Treehouse’s annual Treefest event and at Quidenham’s EACH children’s hospices last month.

Engaging children and their families in gentle play and puppetry to causing lots of mischief and laughter.

Visits to the hospices are referred to as ‘On Call’ visits, Suffolk Artlink offer children’s hospices the opportunity to receive a visit from the Clown Doctors, the visit can be scheduled to coincide with a group, an event for the children and their siblings or a one to one visit. Suffolk Artlink are fundraising in order to offer further on call visits over the next year.

Culture Club
Creative sessions will soon be taking place with Sue Ryder’s Synergy Cafes and the new Day Service at Mildenhall Lodge. We are also very pleased to say that we now have a Creative Volunteer in place to help support and maintain the Art Group at Gainsborough Library.

Forget Me Not
Working in Hawthorn Drive Care Home, the Stables Day Service and Ipswich Hospital’s Complex Care Unit our Forget-me-not Visitors have been engaging with the service users and providing them with creative ways to express themselves. Ipswich Hospital had a piece about the project in their ‘Loud & Proud’ Newsletter (which the below photo is from).
