Suffolk Health and Wellbeing Month:

Free feelgood fun at Jimmy’s Farm

October sees the start of the fifth annual Suffolk Health and Wellbeing Month, a local campaign driven by a collective of Suffolk-based organisations working together to help improve the health, wellbeing and happiness of the local population.

The month kicks off with ‘Sowing the Seeds for Wellbeing’ at Jimmy’s Farm on Saturday, 4 October 2014, 10am-3pm.

This will be a free, fun-filled day packed full of family-friendly activities including a children’s treasure hunt, face painting, football skills, an outdoor cinema, ‘Hope’ from the Brainy Dogs project performing tricks, yoga, massage, poetry, information stands and live music from the highly acclaimed Funky Voices Choir.

Jayne Davey from Suffolk User Forum, who is co-ordinating the event, said: “This is the second year that we’ve run this event at Jimmy’s Farm and this year is shaping up to be even more fun than last time.

“We’ve got some great entertainment that all the family will enjoy, as well as a wealth of information about local resources that people may not otherwise necessarily get to hear about. I do think that people are becoming more and more aware that mental health is something that affects us all, so it’s great to work alongside so many other organisations that are also dedicated to helping local people access the support they might need during a period of ill health.

“We want to let people know that there are so many simple steps that people can take to improve their mental health and general sense of wellbeing. This event, and many others throughout the month, will be focusing on supporting two national campaigns, Time To Change and our Hidden Talents project with Suffolk employers as well as promoting the national Action For Happiness movement.”

Kate Cotterill, from Jimmy’s Farm, said: “We are delighted to support Suffolk Health and Wellbeing Month with this event again this year and it fits really well with our regular Craft and Farmer’s Market, which will also be there on the same day.”

A number of other wellbeing events will take place across the county throughout October. To find out more, visit www.suffolkvasp.co.uk
