The Halesworth Arts Festival is branching out this year with a series of concerts on Sundays in March, featuring some of this country’s brightest string quartets. The recitals are part of the ongoing Tessa Fuchs Quartet Series, made possible by the support of Tessa, who has been a tireless champion of chamber music players.

All concerts are at The Cut and will start at 3.00pm. Full details of each are on the Festival website, www.halesworthartsfestival.org.uk. This year’s Arts Festival will run from 13th to 28th October 2012 and details will be available in July. A splendid time is guaranteed for all!

HEATH QUARTET

The Heath Quartet is rapidly emerging as an exciting and original voice on the international chamber music scene. Selected by YCAT in 2008, they went on to win 1st prize at the Tromp and 2nd prize at the Haydn International Competitions. In 2011 they were awarded a prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Special Ensemble Scholarship.
The quartet recently returned to the Wigmore Hall as part of the Emerging Talent scheme, collaborating with Stephen Hough and Ian Bostridge, and giving the premiere of a new work by Luke Bedford. Future plans include a complete Tippett Quartet cycle at the Hall.
The Heath Quartet was formed in 2002 at the RNCM, under the guidance of the late
Dr Christopher Rowland and Alisdair Tait.

The Jubilee Quartet was formed at the Royal Academy of Music in 2006, where they have won several prizes including the Harold Craxton Prize and the Sir John Barbirolli Prize.
The quartet has performed in the UK, France, Italy and the Czech Republic where they have given a series of concerts every December for a number of years. On their last tour to the Czech Republic the quartet were honoured to be invited to perform for the former Czech president, Vaclav Havel.
The quartet are recent winners of the Val Tidone International Chamber Music Competition, Italy and are looking forward to several engagements in Italy as part of their prize.

One of the finest British string quartets, the Maggini is renowned for the championship of British repertoire. Their acclaimed contribution to the Naxos British Music Series has won international awards including Gramophone Chamber Music CD of the Year, a Cannes Classical Award and a Diapason d’Or of the Year, and they have been nominated twice for Grammy Awards.
The Maggini will launch its own chamber music festival 25-27 May 2012, based in and around
Swaffham in Norfolk, with concerts and a variety of other activities.
The Quartet appears regularly in prestigious concert series at home and abroad and gives frequent media broadcasts.

The Barbirolli Quartet holds an international reputation for its diverse, prolific repertoire and
dynamic approach to performance. Following their selection by the European Concert Halls Organisation (ECHO) as the UK Concert Halls’ nominated ‘Rising Stars’ 09-10, the Barbirolli Quartet toured the major concert halls of Europe.
Formed in 2003 at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, the quartet has also undertaken a Chamber Music Fellowship at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and a Leverhulme Chamber Music Fellowship at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
In 2010 the Barbirolli Quartet received the loan of four fine Italian instruments, kindly lent to them by the Royal Academy of Music.
