The essence of one woman…..pursued by one man!

Ephraim is an evil doer cursed with immortality, and watched over by a mysterious, omnipresent “Host”. Following a brief encounter with Constance a serving girl, the “Host” spies a spark of attraction between the unlikely couple and lays a wager with Ephraim; win the heart of the girl and have her freely declare her love for him, and the curse will be lifted.

And so a pursuit of true love begins that will run from the Middle Ages to Modern Day and beyond.

With a little help from fate, Ephraim is reunited with various reincarnations of Constance, with varying degrees of success. But will he win the bet and the heart of the girl before his luck runs out? Who is the mysterious Host and who does he serve? Follow the ups and downs, highs and lows, hits and misses of our ill-fated couple as they are repeatedly reunited every 75 years. Can Ephraim ever learn what he must do to win the bet and the girl?

‘A fascinating concept…. a funny touching and clever script’ Kitchener Record (Canada)

This is the English premiere of this play by award winning Canadian playwright David Belke.

Mustard Theatre Company celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2014, by touring two very different productions. They presented Death and the Maiden in June, followed by Little Voice in November. Both received critical acclaim, demonstrating the talent and dedication contained within this small group. This is the forth time under the leadership of Director Steven Phipps – who also takes to the stage in this production!
